Ekphrasis: a literary description of or commentary on a visual work of art
The red-headed match.
A poppy of war.
She looks down through monocled-eye.
Wails of no leave her plum lips.
Extended like a sheep’s yowl.
The thin linen-white scythe
Breathes through stone.
The tartan dress, a blanket of persuasion.
The sea-god sheds her for a new suit.
Guff in the kitchen sink, fly-bitten.
He pulls at his cheeks like dough.
Awash with gunpowder.
She draws the ink from his face.
Proud as a lion.
His babied blur
Lifts like an egg in saltwater.1
